We began producing the Amphora Grenache in 2014 after receiving our first Tuscan terracotta Amphora vessel the same year. As curious souls always intent on trying new techniques in the cellar, we were interested in the unique properties offered by such an ancient – and yet currently uncommon – method of aging. The clay vessel allows oxygen to slowly penetrate the aging wine in a manner slightly less than that of oak barrels. It is entirely neutral and therefore does not impart its own flavor onto the wine. At the culmination of the amphora aging experiment, we found the emergent Grenache to be a delicious study on nuanced texture that also allowed the pure, vivid flavors of our estate vineyard’s Grenache grapes to shine unabashedly through.

Prepare for the initial burst of muddled strawberries and raspberries, delicately accompanied by subtle hints of milk chocolate powder. As time goes by the fruit evolves into luscious dark cherry, with notes of savory herbs and ancho chilis. Certainly, the wine is ready for immediate enjoyment while also displaying impressive aging potential.
